The Holiday by Tim Logan
Our first virtual book group book is from the bestselling author of LIES. Take a holiday you won't forget . . .
Seven days. Three families. One killer.
It was supposed to be the perfect holiday, dreamed up by Kate as the ideal way to turn 40: four best friends and their husbands and children in a luxurious villa under the blazing sunshine of Provence.
But there is trouble in paradise. Kate suspects that her husband is having an affair, and that the other woman is one of her best friends.
One of these women is willing to sacrifice years of friendship and destroy her family. But which one? As Kate closes in on the truth in the stifling Mediterranean heat, she realises too late that the stakes are far higher than she ever imagined.
Because someone in the villa is prepared to kill to keep their secret hidden.

Hi I’m Heather. I’ve been listening to the book today whilst knitting and boiling beetroot!!! I’m about halfway through and really enjoying it. I’m finding it quite gripping too and as it’s set in France that makes it nice for me / should have been going there in June! But alas...😥

Hi Heather! I was roasting beetroot yesterday which I put in a risotto. I expect we'll have more people reading the book after details about the book and group goes in our library newsletter on Monday. Hang in there!

Hi, I've just finished the book. Found it quite gripping and I wasn't expecting the twist at the end. This is my first time joining a book group. I've not found one that met at a convenient time for me so an online one is perfect.

Hi, I'm about 2 thirds through. It's ratcheting up the tension pretty constantly! I'm not sure how on earth the main character Kate is getting through this holiday at all! But it's a great read, and good to get absorbed in at this time. Hope I'll finish it tonight.

Ok GO!!! I hope everyone has read it now! Please feel free to discuss the book. What did we think of the overall plot? How did we feel about the characters? Are you an avid crime reader or is this unusual for you? Why do you think crime novels are the most popular genre (in libraries they are anyway). Would you read another TM Logan book? anyway let us know what you really thought.
I'm going to be announcing the title of the next book group book tonight.
I've never done an online book group before so please let me know if you can think of a better way to do things.
Anyway let me know your thoughts on The Holiday.

I liked the book but it didn't really feel like a crime novel for most of the way through. I still enjoyed it though, it was pretty easy reading which is ideal for times like this when I find it hard to concentrate on much. I liked Kate and her family and really didn't want her husband to have got up to anything and I was sad when it appeared the son had died, although I wasn't convinced that he actually had!

Great choice for the 1st book. Loved the cover, it drew me in. I kept waiting for the murder to happen but glad it wasn't sooner than it was as I liked the way I got to know the characters and then I had more understanding. People watching is a favourite hobby of mine. I will definitely be reccommending this book and I have been introduced to a new author.

Interested to try the book, not my usual type at all. Some good characters, told the story well, and surprising ending, completely unpredictable......but I don’t particularly want to read anything by this author again. Also my first experience of reading a book online - which was positive- and it’s interesting to see everyone’s comments. Great idea to have an online book group in current times... looking forward to other choices....
